Helldivers — Is anyone playing Helldivers? My son and I are having fun with it, but it's quite hard with two players and not super fun playing with randoms ... maybe a Gemini squad? :) we most often play 6pm-9pm central european time.

Drove across the US — This time, at a leisurely pace, two sleep stops (4 hours and 5 hours) and made it in 2 1/2 days. Google auto still really sucks. I ran through 2GB in a few hours streaming podcasts, and had to stop. Screw the cloud. Radios without a tuning knob really suck.

Update If I didn't break anything, here's the newest features: Added: weekly high score that resets after Sundays Updated: ties for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place should now give points to everyone, e.g., if you tied for 3rd you'll get 1 point, even if the database pushed you out of the top three when sorting in descending order Note: I'll try and keep an eye on the tournament scoring for a couple days to make sure it's still functioning correctly

books I started 🪲 — I finally started reading again, some of the books I got for my birthday are “distant star” (Bolaño), “To the Lighthouse” (Woolf), “An island garden” (Thaxter) and “Sacred and Terrible Air” (Kurvitz). I’m specially excited for the last one, since I’m not too used to reading tougher books in english, and it’ll be a fun challenge! I’ll try to remember updating them, and how much I enjoyed each one.

🌒 s/programming

Binary Golf Grand Prix 5 starts this Friday! — The Binary Golf Grand Prix (BGGP) is a competition where folks make binary programs that fit specific criteria while also trying to make the binary programs as small as possible. The 5th Grand Prix begins this Friday! BGGP1 (2020) had the theme of Palindrome, where the binary file needed to be a binary palindrome, so if you reversed all of the bits of the program, it would be the same program and still function. In order to prevent the user from...

Using an Android tablet as a web server? — I have a Lenovo K-10 tablet lying around and I wondered whether it is possible to use it to serve a website / onionsite. If this is possible, what is the best way to achieve so?

For the children and the father: I was able to try out the Bambu A1 mini 3D-printer. I'll get to work with it at home and start with simple objects. My job has long been about digitizing zoological specimens, including 3d models. Let's see what the printer can do. And if the children are up for it.

🌒 s/OpenBSD

Hello from Lagrange on OpenBSD 7.5! — I feel like I've arrived! This is starting to feel very cozy. Once I managed to replace the WiFi card (as per my previous post here) it went SO much more quickly; but there's a lot of learning involved for me. I've only used Linux (and MacOS) before, and I've always just mostly went along with whatever the Distro gave me. Now I feel like I am building a system. I had to do it all, and with some community help I'm really glad to have been able to get...

Gemtext tables & etc — I have a question: Is it an heresy to consider that the gemtext protocol would be incredibly better (like, a GIANT LEAP) with the inclusion of tables like in html2 (just the tables, i'm not mentioning anything else)? I think it would really help with the content organization in the space of the screen. The developers had said much about gemini like an evolution of gopher, and it really is at protocol level but I really can`t say much about the gemtext standart, it's...

What are we? There is the clearnet or surface web, which is everything that is searchable in the www, html world. Then there is the deepweb, which is www html that is not searcheable, password protected forum, wall garden etc. Then there is the darkweb, in onion and Tor nodes. There is the smolweb, which is hand crafted, but still www, html based. What is the web that is ssh, gopher, gemini, mud, moo, nntp based? Protoweb is partly the answer, but Gemini is not proto, for instance. I feel...

🌒 s/Geminispace

I'm looking for a program that converts HTML into a simpler version suitable for Geminispace. I've looked for this in the past, but have always been forwarded to some Chrome thing, or load it up in Firefox and press this button, or it requires Javascript, or only works on the web. What I really want is a standalone executable that does the job. Or a Rust library. It doesn't have to output gemtext. I just need the text body, the headers, links, the title, date, and author. Basic stuff like that....

Misfin reference server crashes when mail is sent containing unicode in the name or body of the message and the recipient is using MailDir or MH. Error ultimately comes from Python itself. The mailbox module is not Unicode safe and leads to a crash: File "/email/generator.py", line 410, in write self._fp.write(s.encode('ascii', 'surrogateescape')) UnicodeEncodeError: 'ascii' codec can't encode characters in position 0-3: ordinal not in range(128) Appears it may work if you are using gembox...

hello world? — Hi everyone! This is just me trying the post editor after creating my account. Mistakes will be made, but lets see how it goes. Its not clear to me how this editor interface works. It looks like I get to edit a draft, chunk by chunk. Adding a paragraph of text, or a link. This is a rather creative way to go about the limitations of the protocol. The 'Editing text' link is a bit of misnomer, it actually gives an input to replace the existing text with something new. But it works...

Plasma 6.1 due for release very soon Wondering if anyone else is excited for Plasma 6.1? When I first used GNU/Linux KDE just got bumped to KDE 3, shortly afterwards I found Gnome and stuck with it until Gnome 3, then I switch to tiling window managers. A couple of weeks ago I decided that I'd install KDE again, having not followed its developments I figured meh... it cannot be as bad as Gnome 3, right? I was pleasntly suprised that KDE/Plasma has come leaps and bounds from its 3.x days!
