Android Tablet Computing Setup

Entered: in vim on onn tablet | Date: 20211103

I have been creating a new experimental computing setup during this vacation. The components are:

1.

Onn Tablet 8" Pro

2.

Arteck Portable Mini Foldable Wireless Keyboard

3.

Top-Up Phone and Tablet Stand

4.

Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball Mouse

5.

Sinstar USB C OTG Adapter, 2 in 1 USB-C Splitter

6.

Water Resistant Zipper Document Holder

The tablet I already had for a bit. The mouse I have had for years. The canvas zipper bag to carry the setup - I own three of these because it is quality and I find it useful for my travels. The OTG adapter is a splitter that allows charging the tablet while also connecting the mouse dongle.

I am of course running termux on the tablet. Emacs in conjunction with

Dropsync

and my dropbox account keeps my agenda synced to all devices, I use

orgzly

on my android phone. Other software includes mpd running in termux and an android

mpd client

for music.

mpv

for video (I have several movies loaded on an SD card).

DOSBox

for Doom I/II and

Quadtouch

for Quake I/II (legit the only video games I have ever gotten into).

AntennaPod

for podcasts and

KurobaEx

for image boards. That's about it.

The screen is large for video, and nice for termux. The performance is not bad for the items I am running. The price for everything is less than $150, however, in the future the tablet is the only item that likely needs repurchasing. Even that seems like a distant in time thing. The keyboard is not cramped, and has a metal chassis. The tablet stand is likewise metal and folds flat taking up very little space. All in all I am so far pleased with this setup.
