Given a page on the Web or in Gemini, backlinks are other pages that link to that page. Kennedy indexes Geminispace and thus has information on what pages are linked to from other pages, so "Backlink to capsule" collects that information in one place.

@jsreed5 is totally right. GUS, the original search engine of Gemini, had a "Backlinks" feature, which let you put in a Gemini URL and see what other Gemini pages linked to it. It was tedious to pull in a bunch of URLs to see what linked where, so I "zoomed out" a bit and made a feature to show all external links to any pages in a capsule.
I am a noob, I do not know what a backlink is. Kennedy search engine has an option "backlink to capsule", is this a button I need for adding my own capsule to the search engine? Why is it called so strange then?
