Im doing this post from my user feed as the topic I have in mind doesn't seem to correspond to any s/subspace that exists as of yet. It's too connected to tech to post in s/casual and not related enough to gemini to post in s/discuss. Maybe I should start a s/general space for general topics, of random nature? Lmk what you think.
Ok, so as for my inquiry: does anyone else still feel tied to modern platforms as a result of family/friends/work/etc yet feel the need to use a stripped down version of that platform? Now I don't necessarily mean a clone, but I guess closer to what ppl do with frontends either graphically or console or even what might already be provided by the platform over an ordinary client/browser.
example: I have ppl I still keep touch with over facebook, but I refuse to use their stock bloated desktop/mobile layout and resolve not to DL messenger or fb light on principle of not allowing meta to go and usurp my devices for their telemetric purposes, so instead I found out I could opt for using a stripped down CSS/PHP version of the site meant for outdated flip-type mobile phones which can be found at mbasic.facebook.com
Does anyone else know of any more like this? Could be useful in case of needing to use these spaces for sake of connection w/ everyone else while maintaining smol activity kept within the smolnet. Thanks for reading, pls lmk what you think or if you have more links like this!

"Telegraph" is kind of like that. It is local client based and has a similar "social script" environment where you build your controlled circle of friends and all content shared stays within that circle of friends.

I hope you don't mind that I moved this to a new subspace called s/minimalism.
đ flipperzero [OP] ¡ Dec 31 at 05:46:
@skyjake i dig it! opens up more realms of discussion related to design, workflow, art, tech n all sorts of other fields minimized into bare essential and simplified counterparts

This is the way... And I thank you for reveal mbasic.facebook.com to me, I'm in the process of freeze my FB account, but I need a period and mbasic.fb falls like a gift.

short answer: no
longer: u cannot fool them. if you login once, they fingerprinted your screen. then you just read a random blog about cooking and they know which part of the blog you have read and which part you scrolled.
i think the best, and the hardest option is to delete corporate accounts asap. and then, yes, feel that void.
ok, what else?
now i know the problem exactly.
i would describe it as 'socialization in common public place' and i believe it is very necessary to indeed be present in the public together. it is one of the most important parts of connection.
but then the question is: how do you socialize?
if those are chats, i used pidgin plugins for skype, teams...
đ norayr ¡ Dec 31 at 12:15:
so i used pidgin plugins for skype or teams or slack for job.
usually if you use their web interface, they know less about you than if you used their proprietary app.
if you are using your floss app for their service, i think they know less, than they can know if you were using their web site.
so i noticed some facebook appsbon fdroid and set up for friends.
now other problem: facebook ioesn't allow apps for its chat, so chat has to be a proprietary app.
so again, not sure how you socialize.
then i would say actively advocate and bring those who think alike also to fediverse: to mastodon and activity pub.
and if you can to write them via jabber, not facebook, that's a win.
đ norayr ¡ Dec 31 at 12:18:
if you have a group of friends in jabber - even more win.
another hope is tmat they will use thread's and shilr be slaves but your mastodon instance willbfederate with them when they will open federation.
but you need to explain them that they still will be tracked in all ways when using proprietary threads application.
