Been thinking of starting one. Not that my existence is all that special, but I believe it might bring some structure to the recurring themes that occupy my thoughts... I love thinking, it's the only "place" where I feel like I have some level of agency in the world. But if you do it too much, without putting down markers along the way, there's a risk of producing an ocean of "blaah", then drowning in it. Keeping a journal might be a first step towards turning an interesting but fuzzy blob, into something a bit more coherent, maybe even meaningful. In fact, this very response to your post is an illustration for what I'm trying to say: Unclear motivations before, clearer after writing it...
My previous response exceeded the length limit, so I just wanted to add: Yeah, go for it! At first, just unload anything that's on your mind, however random and minuscule, without worrying about consistency... Once that step is done, a clearer direction for what you want to say in your journal might emerge, because of the very fact that you wrote those seemingly random things first...

I've been keeping a paper journal for a few years. I go through spurts of entries. I wanted to keep one so I can recall where I was at mentally years from now, and also to hand over to a family member one day. I sometimes write down formative memories of mine. as cool as digital is, it goes away unless maintained. acid free paper can last a long time.
plus I got a cool fountain pen to use with it, which is something I discovered here in Gemini. pen nerds.
