NAQCC Spring tonight: 12JUNE24 from 0030-0230z time. Just worked KG2RG in Albany (short hop) on 40m and he was LOUD and clear so hopefully a good nite for it QRPheads. The North American QRP CW Club has been around for a while now and evnts like this a little hit and run but as they repeat a lot it's not bad practice and if you like the paperchase good fun. Best of luck to anyone taking a whack at it. I'm NAQCC#196 so I might jump on later for a quick FB QSO... [http link]

I am still amazed at the persistance of the contester! There was digital calling on 10m yesterday and little else could be heard. Adverse conditions and the alure of the soasp box have provided wonderful poor conditions alternatives. There have been so many advances I wish my elderly friends in the hobby had access to even 10 years ago. Many had moved into the assisted living phase of their lives and no longer had the ability to fly and antenna. With modes like DMR /Dstar/YSF but also the...

Any good contacts this weekend? It seemed like the solar activity made Saturday sort of poopy on 40m. It was WES Weekend Sprintathon with SKCC and there was lot of activity but I just couldn't get heard. Took my Tentec to dad's place (N2NRA) and hooked onto his 80m zepp out on the patio and worked portable for a bit. Should see what he's got for portable gear too and see if we can't muster a field day setup in the bark yard there. Nothing like a comfortable patio to work from.

13 Colonies Special Event Starts off July too. — 13 Colonies runs July 1st-7th and you try and collect special call signs in each of the original US colonies + some bonus stations. It's not a contest but just a fun special event for July. 13colonies.us/

So the press is reporting that the region of the sun that caused the geomagnetic storm a week + ago is back and we're looking down the barrel again. There was even a note that HF was black out for the G1 storm that did hit us yesterday. I'm seeing lots of action on 40m right now so I think I might take my QRP radio out for a bike ride and an unofficial park activation. Should be APRS Radio-Active too de N2QFD Well, turns out that my gelcells were not up to charge. So that means I can't take the...

40m has been pretty active this week in CW and there must be some sort of event on. Just worked N2JPR who had a lovely signal from Long Island at 7.045Mhz. I use [http link] to just listen to the radio, there are many open stations around , I just hang on one near me when I work from home so I can fire up my radio if I want to respond to someone. It's a great way to do some SWL time and if you're here you probably already have everything you need to listen to the world. 72's de N2QFD

So, I don't know why it took so long to think of this. Is there a Gemini version of QRZ? The ARRL look up tool anything like that? Anyone got a good link to share?

40m is working close today. I copied KC9HEK calling CW SKCC about 75 miles away but no reply to my answer. Copied WA2YLY in Hawley PA 92 miles away down in PA, short QSO. Bob was a 599, he reported me at 559. I'm only using 4 watts out to my zepp and there was some fade so if you're trying HF it's working but at least on 40,m CW it's real close in!

CW - Morse Code — Someone I think over on The Station shared this with me and it's just fun. It's Wordel but a CW test to see how fast you can copy. It starts at like 40WPM and each replay and you only get like 20 of them slows down and you still have 5 guesses. MORSEL.FUN 100% give it a shot it's fun.

I'm someone who has had "get into ham radio" on my list for a while, but various stuff in life has distracted me from taking the test and getting any equipment just yet. So in the meantime...I want to hear what y'all actually DO. Tell me what your typical interactions with ham radio looks like! What fun stuff can I do, what does the reality of it look like, how can I enjoy radios? Because my plan has always been get the license then figure this part out but...seems like I should really have...

I sent a photo of my cat 630 miles over the air — We used VarAC to transfer an 8kb image over the 20-meter band from Portland, OR to Salt Lake City, UT. My antenna is an inverted-vee dipole resonant at 14.1 MHz. It shares a feed point with a 10-meter inverted vee. The transfer took just under an hour. Given my antenna's thin, low-quality wire elements and the thunderstorm over the receiving station, I'm impressed that we were able to complete the transfer at all. I was transmitting at 45 Watts,...
