2020-08-20T00:04:23 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> Anyone on
2020-08-20T00:17:45 #kisslinux <himmalerin> sort of
2020-08-20T00:25:04 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> I'm stuck between using firefox-esr-bin because its faster and using firefox-esr because I should have to suffer for that much complexity
2020-08-20T00:28:02 #kisslinux <himmalerin> Faster as in update time? I'd be surprised if the precompiled version ran any faster
2020-08-20T00:28:32 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> faster as in install/compile time, should have specified
2020-08-20T00:28:44 #kisslinux <himmalerin> I don't think either version adds much complexity, if anything compiling it yourself is more complex
2020-08-20T00:28:45 #kisslinux <himmalerin> ah yeah
2020-08-20T00:29:41 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> probably, installing the bin package just feels like outsourcing the complexity rather than eliminating it
2020-08-20T00:31:02 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> I guess I'll go with firefox-esr-bin for now
2020-08-20T00:32:17 #kisslinux <himmalerin> That's true, it is sort of outsourcing it. I have a fast enough processor compiling firefox doesn't make that much of an impact so I never spent much time thinking about it lmao
2020-08-20T00:34:27 #kisslinux <Island_Alpha> Yeah, my i7 gaming laptop is starting to fall apart so I bought a thinkpad x200 off ebay for the 'freedom' which suits my needs but can't compile as fast
2020-08-20T00:34:55 #kisslinux <cat_marin> should have gotten one of those custom motherboards for it
2020-08-20T04:22:19 #kisslinux <micr0> o/
2020-08-20T04:24:34 #kisslinux <micr0> so i did `kiss update` and noticed that glib was updated. does that mean i need to reinstall everything that depends on it?
2020-08-20T04:25:14 #kisslinux <micr0> kiss b $(kiss revdep glib | cut -d'/' -f1 | tr 'n' ' ') # something like this?
2020-08-20T04:33:07 #kisslinux <himmalerin> I didn't and so far everything is fine, don't think I've rebooted since though
2020-08-20T04:37:29 #kisslinux <micr0> i wish tiny compiled on stable rust
2020-08-20T04:42:55 #kisslinux <himmalerin> same
2020-08-20T10:25:16 #kisslinux <muevoid> Does anyone here use a webkit2gtk based browser?
2020-08-20T10:36:32 #kisslinux <claudia02> muevoid: I use them ever now and then.
2020-08-20T10:37:19 #kisslinux <muevoid> Do you have any problems with some sites saying Unacceptable TLS?
2020-08-20T10:38:31 #kisslinux <claudia02> Not yet. Do you have an example domain?
2020-08-20T10:38:42 #kisslinux <muevoid> Let me find one quickly
2020-08-20T10:42:04 #kisslinux <muevoid> Not the same error but draculatheme.com also has issues
2020-08-20T10:42:06 #kisslinux <muevoid> same with gitlab
2020-08-20T10:42:18 #kisslinux <muevoid> But im trying to find the site that showed the unacceptable tls
2020-08-20T10:43:52 #kisslinux <claudia02> I cant display gitlab right aswell. But that has always been the case.
2020-08-20T10:44:30 #kisslinux <muevoid> Alright another issue I have is reddit.com not being able to click show full conversation while on a post.
2020-08-20T10:44:47 #kisslinux <muevoid> I may just consider using firefox at this point
2020-08-20T10:44:47 #kisslinux <claudia02> Draculathme works with javascript off (:
2020-08-20T10:44:58 #kisslinux <muevoid> Really?
2020-08-20T10:45:03 #kisslinux <muevoid> What browser are you using?
2020-08-20T10:45:47 #kisslinux <claudia02> The git version of surf. But gitlab e.g doestn also work in vimb or lariza.
2020-08-20T10:46:13 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah I am using vimb right now
2020-08-20T10:46:41 #kisslinux <claudia02> Reddit works without issues while I am logged in.
2020-08-20T10:46:55 #kisslinux <muevoid> Ill try logging in I usually browse while not logged in
2020-08-20T10:47:13 #kisslinux <claudia02> I think when I am not logged in it also does not work.
2020-08-20T10:47:24 #kisslinux <claudia02> Thats the pita with webkit..
2020-08-20T10:47:53 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah I really want to use firefox but I hate using binaries and rust takes so long to compile
2020-08-20T10:48:08 #kisslinux <claudia02> Just dont visit thoes websites :D
2020-08-20T10:48:14 #kisslinux <muevoid> True lol
2020-08-20T10:48:36 #kisslinux <muevoid> The only reason I came across the issue is I was trying to find dependencies for pivita(a video editor to package it)
2020-08-20T10:48:54 #kisslinux <claudia02> But I also have a fullfeatured browser handy for when its important :(
2020-08-20T10:49:09 #kisslinux <muevoid> Do you use -bin or compiled it?
2020-08-20T10:49:24 #kisslinux <claudia02> Atm, just the bin.
2020-08-20T10:49:27 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah
2020-08-20T10:50:07 #kisslinux <muevoid> What do you think about rust?
2020-08-20T10:50:58 #kisslinux <claudia02> Normaly I was using qutebrowser and was quite happy with it, until qt5-webengine decided to crashing while displaying video content. I could not figure out the issue. Thats why I hopped browser and toolkit again.
2020-08-20T10:51:28 #kisslinux <muevoid> How was compile times for qutebrowser and friends?
2020-08-20T10:51:40 #kisslinux <claudia02> If I would have a more powerful machine, I would not mind. But everything takes ages to build.
2020-08-20T10:52:02 #kisslinux <claudia02> On my 3rd gen i3 It takes about 5-7h?
2020-08-20T10:52:20 #kisslinux <claudia02> i5
2020-08-20T10:52:22 #kisslinux <claudia02> *
2020-08-20T10:52:52 #kisslinux <muevoid> Is it a dual core or quad core?
2020-08-20T10:53:01 #kisslinux <claudia02> Dual
2020-08-20T10:53:21 #kisslinux <muevoid> Browsers suck :P
2020-08-20T10:57:58 #kisslinux <necromansy> browsers are the bane of suckless, all those tui/cli yt client
2020-08-20T10:58:11 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah I use tuitube :P
2020-08-20T10:58:28 #kisslinux <muevoid> Just use lynx /s
2020-08-20T10:58:53 #kisslinux <necromansy> i'm a tab hoarder too, which is *my* problem but damn it makes
2020-08-20T10:59:24 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah I have trouble with tabbed keybinds however I could probably change them
2020-08-20T11:00:04 #kisslinux <necromansy> tabbed prob would shit itself with my tab count, one thing i l
2020-08-20T11:07:11 #kisslinux <claudia02> The extensive tabs usage, is something you have to activly change. Since I use surf again for some time, I start closing my ff tabs :D
2020-08-20T11:07:40 #kisslinux <muevoid> I need to switch away from vimb to surf
2020-08-20T11:08:02 #kisslinux <muevoid> Is there a way to set a default homepage in surf probs not without a patch I assume
2020-08-20T11:13:44 #kisslinux <necromansy> yeah the exstensive tab usage is entirely a self driven issue,
2020-08-20T11:18:02 #kisslinux <muevoid> I am not sure why but I really dislike rust for some reason.
2020-08-20T11:19:05 #kisslinux <necromansy> rust seems to be the big new dev environment
2020-08-20T11:19:49 #kisslinux <necromansy> or dev language rather
2020-08-20T11:20:41 #kisslinux <muevoid> Yeah that's why I'm not sure why I dislike it so much
2020-08-20T11:21:14 #kisslinux <muevoid> I know its a great language for high performance applications that need memory safety
2020-08-20T11:21:28 #kisslinux <muevoid> I think its mainly due to the compile times
2020-08-20T11:21:44 #kisslinux <necromansy> could be a case of "ugh its the next Big Thing", no idea about
2020-08-20T11:21:54 #kisslinux <necromansy> ah
2020-08-20T11:22:21 #kisslinux <necromansy> yeah the compile times do seem pre large
2020-08-20T11:22:35 #kisslinux <muevoid> My relatively good computer takes around 1 to 2 hours to compile the compiler where as gcc takes just around 15 mins
2020-08-20T11:23:23 #kisslinux <muevoid> Also rust binaries seem to be larger since they are almost always usually statically compiled.
2020-08-20T11:25:01 #kisslinux <necromansy> is there any benefits in speed with static compilation for the
2020-08-20T11:25:59 #kisslinux <obsessive[m]> brow.sh is how i like it. just a working proof of concept though imo
2020-08-20T11:28:09 #kisslinux <muevoid> Oh yeah i've seen brow.sh it is great
2020-08-20T11:28:25 #kisslinux <necromansy> where can i find that?
2020-08-20T11:29:36 #kisslinux <necromansy> oh wait, i know what ya talking about
2020-08-20T11:29:59 #kisslinux <muevoid> And also in regards to static compilation for binaries. Speed wise it depends. Most of the time probably not that large of a difference but when using a library like gtk or qt when its shared it doesn't have to be loaded every time. Also with static binaries it can lead to security issues with outdated libraries.
2020-08-20T12:19:17 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Fixed the /etc issue. Apologies.
2020-08-20T12:19:20 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Released kiss 5.0.1.
2020-08-20T12:20:10 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Also... please open bug reports! (thanks Konimex).
2020-08-20T12:27:13 #kisslinux <claudia02> dylanaraps: What do you think about an irc motd about: how to report bugs faq?
2020-08-20T12:27:30 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Sure
2020-08-20T12:28:45 #kisslinux <claudia02> I can try to write something. But thats probably just a template.
2020-08-20T12:37:35 #kisslinux <aosync> hi
2020-08-20T12:38:10 #kisslinux <aosync> I am on kiss 5.0.1 but busybox build aborts without error after `-> busybox Generating etcsums`
2020-08-20T12:48:19 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> I can't reproduce. Let me look into this.
2020-08-20T12:49:12 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Using busybox find?
2020-08-20T12:49:21 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Can anyone else reproduce?
2020-08-20T13:10:29 #kisslinux <perish> hello!hello!
2020-08-20T13:10:45 #kisslinux <necromansy> as in building busybox?
2020-08-20T13:10:54 #kisslinux <necromansy> also hey!
2020-08-20T13:14:18 #kisslinux <perish> Would anyone happen to know any way of getting imlib2 to load xpm and xbm images?
2020-08-20T13:14:42 #kisslinux <perish> I've found a treasure trove of tiled wallpapers and my image viewer refuses to open a single one of them :<
2020-08-20T13:15:03 #kisslinux <mcpcpc[m]> perish: oh man. i went through that a few months ago while one Gentoo. one sec..
2020-08-20T13:15:53 #kisslinux <perish> Thanks!
2020-08-20T13:18:50 #kisslinux <perish> re: aosync: can't reproduce in busybox find
2020-08-20T13:18:53 #kisslinux <perish> http://0x0.st/igPl.png
2020-08-20T13:24:28 #kisslinux <necromansy> yeah i wasn't able to reproduce either
2020-08-20T13:26:19 #kisslinux <aosync> guess i'll stay forever at busybox v1.32.0
2020-08-20T13:29:50 #kisslinux <mcpcpc[m]> perish: sadly, i could not find my Gentoo notes >.<. will keep looking tho and share if i find anything..
2020-08-20T13:36:07 #kisslinux <perish> Ouch
2020-08-20T13:36:19 #kisslinux <perish> I tried using the --enable-x option for imlib2
2020-08-20T13:36:22 #kisslinux <perish> But no luck
2020-08-20T13:36:31 #kisslinux <perish> I suppose I'll have to build some older X11 apps
2020-08-20T13:36:35 #kisslinux <perish> xv here we go?
2020-08-20T13:44:07 #kisslinux <claudia02> date
2020-08-20T13:44:10 #kisslinux <claudia02> ...

2020-08-20T14:07:31 #kisslinux <cat_marin> epic dylan saw it
2020-08-20T14:07:39 #kisslinux <cat_marin> thanks for the help dudes
2020-08-20T14:11:02 #kisslinux <micr0> wow diskonaut works so well https://github.com/imsnif/diskonaut
2020-08-20T14:13:45 #kisslinux <dilynm> Diskonaut is neat. It's a cooler daisydisk
2020-08-20T14:13:57 #kisslinux <dilynm> Makes me feel like I have egg on my face for buying a license (:
2020-08-20T14:15:17 #kisslinux <micr0> daisydisk has been around for a while
2020-08-20T14:17:15 #kisslinux <dilynm> Many many years
2020-08-20T14:17:22 #kisslinux <dilynm> It's got a pretty visualizer
2020-08-20T14:17:47 #kisslinux <dilynm> There's a program like diskonaut from I've a decade ago on windows that does an identical thing... It was so ugly xD
2020-08-20T14:17:58 #kisslinux <micr0> and its prettier than diskinventoryx
2020-08-20T14:22:02 #kisslinux <illiliti> dylanaraps: i can reproduce !

2020-08-20T15:16:52 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Pushed 5.0.2 to repositories.
2020-08-20T15:16:56 #kisslinux <dylanaraps> Thanks everyone.
2020-08-20T15:34:56 #kisslinux <cat_marin> thx bb
2020-08-20T16:24:57 #kisslinux <micr0> himmalerin: ended up using dispatch, a web based irc client written in go, for now...
2020-08-20T16:25:11 #kisslinux <micr0> in good news, sway and firefox seem to be working nicely
2020-08-20T16:25:17 #kisslinux <micr0> (though ff is using Xwayland, whatevs)
2020-08-20T18:32:23 #kisslinux <micr0> dylanaraps: would you consider enabling internationalization support for nodejs? reasoning is that nodejs is used to build software, and although it makes (some) sense that k1ss will be an english-only distribution, it seems not in great spirit to make it difficult to *create* software that supports different languages
2020-08-20T18:33:38 #kisslinux <micr0> I am testing out a fork of extra/nodejs that removes `--without-internationalization` to see how it fares
2020-08-20T19:40:45 #kisslinux <micr0> anyone have a nice system or sway-wide ssh-agent setup?
2020-08-20T19:53:29 #kisslinux <micr0_> himmalerin: i packaged tiny for kiss - they have a static (musl) build
2020-08-20T20:07:45 #kisslinux <minall> Hello KissLinux Community!... I'm trying to start the installation ok the system in one of my machines using the Archlinux ISO, however, I'm getting constant errors such as 'no space left on device'. This is the only error that prevents me to install the system successfully, since I tried it with another system and, at the part of downloading and compiling Linux, I ran out of space, making all the work meaningless
2020-08-20T20:08:00 #kisslinux <minall> Maybe I'm doing something wrong?, or do I need to read about something?
2020-08-20T20:18:17 #kisslinux <micr0_> what does 'df -h' show?
2020-08-20T20:18:28 #kisslinux <minall> There's available space
2020-08-20T20:19:38 #kisslinux <minall> micr0_: Thanks for looking into my problem
2020-08-20T20:20:22 #kisslinux <micr0_> minall one thing i did for my kiss installation, is that i just installed it to a directory in my home, and did kiss u and kiss b and kiss i until i had all the stuff i wanted
2020-08-20T20:20:39 #kisslinux <micr0_> then when i wanted to put it on a partition, i just formatted a partition and used rsync to copy from the directory to the partition, then rebooted
2020-08-20T20:22:19 #kisslinux <minall> micro0_: That IS cool... Wait, I'm making the dd again of archlinux so I can install KISS
2020-08-20T20:33:45 #kisslinux <jedavies> Did anyone package Samba for KISS?
2020-08-20T20:35:57 #kisslinux <micr0_> jedavies according to kiss-find, oiraff has a samba package in github.com/ioraff/kiss-personal
2020-08-20T20:40:42 #kisslinux <jedavies> Thanks micr0_, will check it out.
2020-08-20T20:42:56 #kisslinux <minall> When untar'ing kiss linux chroot file, I get an error "Cannot write: No space left on device", where in another installation attempt in a bigger system than archlinux, it didn't outputed that error... Also, df -h shows several systems that have space available, 1.9G available
2020-08-20T20:47:21 #kisslinux <micr0_> can you paste the entire output of `df -h` and `pwd`?
2020-08-20T20:47:42 #kisslinux <micr0_> df -h | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io
2020-08-20T20:47:51 #kisslinux <micr0_> that should give you a url we can look at
2020-08-20T20:48:03 #kisslinux <micr0_> its also possible you are on a read-only directory
2020-08-20T20:48:34 #kisslinux <micr0_> so like if you are on a liveusb of arch, it may either a) mount itself read-only, or b) do some loopback mount where there are exactly 0 bytes available
2020-08-20T20:48:49 #kisslinux <micr0_> in that case you would need to mount your disk partition somewhere and untar there
2020-08-20T20:49:43 #kisslinux <minall> micr0: Thanks for looking at my problem!, the url is http://ix.io/2uKy... And I think is more about being it read-only
2020-08-20T20:51:18 #kisslinux <mcpcpc[m]> minall: in case it helps, i documented my entire install process a few months back. definitely check it against the install guide tho: https://github.com/mcpcpc/install
2020-08-20T20:51:50 #kisslinux <minall> Thanks mcpcpc[m]!, I'm checking that out
2020-08-20T20:52:40 #kisslinux <micr0_> ok minall so yeah, the only writeable mounted folder is /tmp
2020-08-20T20:52:45 #kisslinux <micr0_> which is just in-memory
2020-08-20T20:53:37 #kisslinux <minall> micr0: Oh... What are my options then lol... Let me check the wiki
2020-08-20T20:55:52 #kisslinux <micr0_> so what you need to do, is find out what drive you want to install to
2020-08-20T20:56:18 #kisslinux <micr0_> you could install to another usb drive, or your hard drive in the computer, but you will want to partition it first if you want to keep your old files
2020-08-20T20:56:27 #kisslinux <micr0_> if this is a new pc, you can format the whole disk though
2020-08-20T20:57:37 #kisslinux <mcpcpc[m]> don’t think there is anything really covering partitioning/mounting in the K1SS wiki (yet). but the gentoo handbook is decent for that: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Handbook:AMD64/Installation/Disks
2020-08-20T20:58:09 #kisslinux <mcpcpc[m]> minall: but as micr0_ indicated, this is entirely user preference.
2020-08-20T21:03:47 #kisslinux <minall> Welp, Guess I'll wipe out the disk... It's a new laptop so, no problem, I'll keep you updated
2020-08-20T21:31:11 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Welp, Guess I'll wipe out the di"> if you're on efi, you need a ~200mb efi (fat32) partition mounted to /mnt/boot and whatever size ext4 mounted to /mnt
2020-08-20T21:31:29 #kisslinux <dan[m]> just ask if you need any help
2020-08-20T21:54:22 #kisslinux <minall> dan[m]: Thanks!... I have a 200MB partition EFI and a home which I'm using now to install everything (everything is working)... But I also have a swap partition... Is there any way of using it?, not that I need it but, I mean to say that it is the swap of the system

2020-08-20T21:58:02 #kisslinux <minall> Ok I'm at the best part, compiling Linux
2020-08-20T22:00:47 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Ok I'm at the best part, compili"> did you config the kernel? it saves a ton of compile time
2020-08-20T22:07:51 #kisslinux <minall> dan[m]: On it... Actually it is my first time compiling the kernel, so I don't understand some of the 'make config' options there are... Even with their descriptions... Is there a page about this?, I'm also writing all my commands and ideas
2020-08-20T22:08:40 #kisslinux <minall> Also, its good if Kiss Linux makes me feel dumb?... The error earlier was because I was trying to install KissLinux into the /mnt directory, but haven't mounted any partition there, quite stupid lol... But I've learned, thanks Kiss LInus
2020-08-20T22:09:25 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "dan: On it... Actually it is my "> my laptop is a dell latitude 5480, so if you have anything similar ill be able to help a lot. i just used the help pages for each command and disabled anything i was 100% certain i didnt need, since its easier to remove stuff later than find out whats required. you can also look at your laptops page on the gentoo wiki if it has one, as well as info for wifi cards and the like.
2020-08-20T22:10:35 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Also, its good if Kiss Linux mak"> :) i had previously installed gentoo and arch and kiss made me feel clueless, but once you get it installed you know *exactly* what is on your system, makes you feel in control and able to resolve problems and customize to a huge degree. hands down the best os ive ever used, enjoyable and functional.
2020-08-20T22:11:23 #kisslinux <minall> Makes sense and, I'll search my laptop in the gentoo wiki.
2020-08-20T22:11:45 #kisslinux <minall> Yes, I think that's the beauty on Kiss Linux, I also am an Archlinux User but, I wish to learn everything about it
2020-08-20T22:11:54 #kisslinux <minall> Everything my linux system I mean
2020-08-20T22:12:11 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Yes, I think that's the beauty o"> ive been on kiss for about 6 months on my laptop, but still use artix (arch) on my desktop due to the software support
2020-08-20T22:12:32 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Everything my linux system I mea"> yep, you can only learn by going out of your comfort zone 2020-08-20T22:12:55 #kisslinux <minall> dan[m]: Thanks for the help!... I'm right now 'make config'ing my kernel
2020-08-20T22:13:19 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "Makes sense and, I'll search my "> in general, the only problems with the kernel are: wifi cards, i2c bus' on modern laptops, gpu drivers, mouse / trackpad drivers, audio drivers.
2020-08-20T22:13:33 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "dan: Thanks for the help!... I'm"> cool, i can send over my .config if you want
2020-08-20T22:15:13 #kisslinux <dan[m]> its the most minimal i could make it
2020-08-20T22:16:25 #kisslinux <minall> dan[m]: It's ok, I'm reading every ? I can on the make config... And the laptop I'm installing it now, My secondary laptop, isn't complicated, I think it doesn't use firmware more than intel-ucode, which is optional, even the wifi works so... I won't have much trouble
2020-08-20T22:16:45 #kisslinux <minall> The think is if I decide to install it in my main laptop, in that time I would really need to be sure everything works, and firmware needed
2020-08-20T22:16:59 #kisslinux <dan[m]> sounds good, thats exactly what i did to config mine
2020-08-20T22:18:13 #kisslinux <minall> I'm at the compression type with several options, there's a brief explanation but, there's no comparation between them, what should I do?... I'm investigating each of them
2020-08-20T22:19:05 #kisslinux <dan[m]> leave it default it can cause problems
2020-08-20T22:19:18 #kisslinux <dan[m]> at the end of the day, all that option can do is save a couple mbs on the efi part
2020-08-20T22:20:08 #kisslinux <minall> dan[m]: True... Default it is then, the important thing is to learn along the way
2020-08-20T22:20:21 #kisslinux <dan[m]> <minall "dan: True... Default it is then,"> yep :)
