Checking in – September 2022

Well, that was a bit of a wash this month.

I don't even know what's going on, but for this month everything's gone a bit pants and I have been focused on things that are mostly outside of my control. So let's see in this abbreviated system what we get.

Internal

With regard to things that I want to do for myself, I've made a start to consolidate my lesser creative outputs to a single binder so that things are in proportion to the actual output quantity. In essence that means that the big paper bonanza I posted about last month is now going to be used to fill that one binder, and if they grow large then they get spun off into another binder or binder notebook.

I've become very appreciative of using loose-leaf paper and binders because that means that I can use different lining schemes depending on the content, and things can also be rearranged so that topics that span multiple pages can be moved around to be closer to each other. That necessitates some change in page numbering but it's nothing that my existing system cannot handle.

However, using loose-leaf paper means that the concept of a "spread" is no longer coherent. By the way books are constructed, a spread necessarily spans two leaves, so that means that content spanning more than three pages has to also span an extra page in order to make sure that the content doesn't get cut out if I decide to swap the order of other pages. Furthermore, spreads, which are two pages facing each other, also take up two leaves so a spread would need two leaves to make them fully flexible. That's not as convenient, and it's also apparently why the two-page-spread proformas that exist have are packaged backwards so the left side of the spread, or the back of the paper, is shown.

In other news, I have drew a few road signs, and also made some progress toward the grammar, but not as much. I've also decided to copy some things I really like online into the binder. It's a cool idea and also uses up pages so that's a thing.

Also my delete key broke and so now I have a hole in my keyboard. There's still the delete key on the numpad that I can use but I think the time I spent being sick (including being sick all over the keyboard) has made its lifespan very low. Also its labels are peeling off so there's that.

External

Obviously there's a lot of high-level deaths happening in around the world, and they've kind of hit me in a way that I didn't expect. It's all very distant of course, but in the end, I think that a good chunk of it is distantly related to me and will influence my direction in life at some point.

I've said this before, but I genuinely think that this is all going to be in some history book in the future labelled "background".

Both

Remember when I was going to do careers this month? Ah... I didn't. I keep putting it off. I'm still nominally doing it, but progress visible from the outside is very much nonexistent.

On the other hand, there's a hint that I might be finding myself in Japan. I've been tasked to find a Japanese course locally. Hmm.

Conclusion

Ultimately it's a bit of a nothing month this month and I have to work a bit harder to get myself going for what's left of this month and to get a good start next month. There really isn't enough hours in the day to do what I really want all the time.
