The latest smartphone from F(x)tec, the Pro1 X, launched on IndieGoGo in October 2020. It has yet to be released thirteen months later. I mentioned this smartphone in previous log entries, as I backed the campaign and still hope to get a device, but it has been quite the ride in the meantime.
Today the company released a monthly update on IGG, showing that final redesign of the device antennas was nearly finished and certifications are nearly complete. Once those steps are done, F(x)tec will arrange delivery of the components and book an slot in their assembling facility in China, where they report they have manufacturing priority.
Unfortunately the timeline for these actions is slightly ambiguous:
I am not sure how to read this statement. Is it the case that an assembly slot is open for two weeks from today, and all F(x)tec has to do is book that open slot? Or is it the case that in two weeks' time, F(x)tec will contact the factory to find a slot to book?
In the former case, the Pro1 X might be assembled and shipped rather quickly--likely before Christmas and maybe even before the end of November. If the latter case is correct, however, it might be a few months yet before the device can be assembled. Backers would likely not receive the phone until early 2022 or even later.
The comments section of F(x)tec's IGG page are swamped with both optimistic and pessimistic readings of their latest update. I think the safer option would be to assume a later shipping date, but I do hope things will move quickly.
At any rate, I will believe nothing until I have a tracking number in my inbox.
