globalism in action

today at a café i saw a grinder of "Pink Himalayan Salt" (it's that sort of café). on the front of the label was the brand name "LITALY" with an italian slogan beneath. and then on the edge of the label it said "Packaged in Turkey", and then under the nutrition info it said it was imported by some company from walthamstow (near london), and then beneath that it had the url¹ <www.evergreenusa.co> which as expected is for an american food business.

to be clear that was:

obviously this isn't anything new but it's not often you actually see all the different parts on the label like that, and it did make me stop and think about it for a moment. at the time i thought something cheesy like "ah the inefficient efficiency of capitalism".

sorry to disappoint if you were expecting an essay about how this is a pervasive problem in our world/society etc. etc., i'm not one to write long insightful articles, the most you can really expect from this gemlog is miscellaneous things i noticed or mediocre ideas i had (though i'm not ruling it out in the future)

¹nitpick: more like domain name with an implied scheme of `https` since all anyone uses in the Real World™ is the web anyway
