I spent way too much time looking at men's watches yesterday. Geez there's a shitton of expensive and ugly watches. Who wears some of these shiny horrors?

I remembered just in time that I'd intended to get spouse a decent watch for graduation. When we walked around the outlet mall so many months ago, we wandered into the fossil shop and I caught him looking at the watches there. I told him, you should get a nice watch to wear with suits. You deserve a nice watch. But he reluctantly declined and said maybe later. He wears a black plastic $20 casio knockoff until it breaks and then he gets another. You can't wear that with a suit, to go to court. He's supposed to meet the Big Boss of his organization at graduation next week and do the handshaking thing. He should have something nice.

The tricky part is if it's TOO nice and TOO expensive, he won't wear it. He's not a flashy guy, so it can't be too busy, but if it's too simple then what are you paying the premium for? It's a pickle.

Anyway, I looked and looked and I read various posts in r/edc and r/watches, and I've ordered him a seiko 5 (SNK809). Seems like one of those classics that the watch guys all like, so if some rich snob wants to judge spouse's watch, have at it, asshole. Everyone loves this watch. It's not too fancy, the face isn't too big, it's a $100 watch so it's not so expensive he will be reluctant to wear it. It will surely look better with a suit. I think it hits the sweet spot. I was looking at the victorinox INOX because supposedly it is super durable and good in extreme conditions (cold), but I think the price exceeds what spouse would feel comfortable wearing. Perhaps the INOX would make a good 10 year anniversary gift, down the road.

The seiko should arrive saturday so I can give it to him before I leave, and if he wants to order a different watch band he might have time. I fly back on thurs and his graduation is friday.

He's passed all the tests and assessments. Unless something shocking happens, we are golden.

Now we can catch all the covid we can stand. Ha ha ha ha ha. (For realisies though, it sounds like his parents household has acquired omicron and everyone's sick again. Good job guys! Guess if his dad dies it was just his time to go!)
