Another busy day!
I was curious, so I rented a hunting flintlock to get a sense for how guns work. Maybe it's just this gun in particular, but I really don't like it. It is super awkward to handle, very unwieldy. I hardly got ordinary foxes hurt, even though I know I got direct hits! Ah, well. One thing's for sure: I am immensely more comfortable with my sword and Crescent Pendulum.
Here's what was definitely today's highlight: I finally was able to pull enough strings -- I have established a trade route which connects Olvia all the way to Heidel! I took this opportunity to sell in Heidel fruit preserves which came all the way from Olvia. I felt tremendous, knowing that folks were willing to pay considerably extra for such a distant good. Despite needing to go off the road temporarily and defending myself from violent Balenos bears, I felt that the long trip was worth it.
Afterwards, I returned to Velia, mostly because I just like hanging out there. I witnessed a strange fish-man riding a horse. I still don't quite believe it. I really don't think there's anything else to say about the strange sight.
I finally had the time and resources to try my hand at taming a wild horse. There is a beautiful one in Fleme Hills who I've had my eye on for about a week. I must have tried at least a dozen times, but I was not successful at capturing them, despite my lump of raw sugar which is supposed to help. Maybe I should try when it's not the dead of night.
Before I had left Heidel for Velia, I encountered a rude patron at the Inn. He's a soldier, and kind of a prick, and I did not like the attitude he was giving the poor waitress. Something about pork being a peasant's meat (what the hell?). Anyway, I intervened when I totally did not need to, and he challenged me to destroy thirty Thorn Tentacles in the swamps of Serendia to prove I was worth his time. Of course, I had to accept -- just to show him right. I did the task, easy peasy. Incidentally, this was the first time I had witnessed a Fan Flamingo, which are much taller than I had imagined. Anyway, when I arrived back at the Inn, the soldier did give me the reward he promised, but he was still being a douchebag about it. He's given me another challenge -- I accepted. I'm gonna show this MAN who he's dealing with.
I'm sitting alone at a table here in the Inn, as I write. The chicken is tasty. I think I'll take a room here for the night.
