It was a *very* busy day today. I accomplished several tasks, and I saw several new things!
There is a real life elephant stationed in Velia! It is way more huge than I ever imagined! Yet they seem like a gentle soul, fundamentally. I hear their name is Snoot.
While exploring some statues outside of Velia, I found one with a peculiar engraving: "One must become the beast to rule the beast." I'm not sure whether I agree or disagree. It's been on my mind most of the day.
Clover, Tikki and I traveled to Olvia late at night -- I knew it was a fairly stupid idea at the time, and, well, it really was. I already knew about the bandits who defend the northern bridge that crosses the river, and yet I went anyway. I thought I could prevail over the bandits, but, no, they are *incredibly* powerful, and I got hurt very badly. Fortunately, I was carrying a boatload of potions to see me through. What a nightmare.
We made a quick delivery in Olvia, and I decided to spend the night there. At the tavern, I met a talking bird! He only seemed to be able to say one thing, though.
In the morning, we headed back to Velia, and then onwards to Heidel. Dropped off Clover in Velia, where I picked up Chanteuse. I am keen on adding Heidel to my trade route -- quite a fair bit of distance, I'd say -- but there is still work to be done. I think I need to be savvy with more people.
I met this very strange fellow in Heidel. He didn't have much to say, except that we'll probably meet again. How ominous.
The merchant's guild situation in Heidel has some gnarly political problems going on. If I understand correctly, Xian Merchants from Caelpheon are upset that this one merchant organizer from Heidel fucked up, and he probably did, but not on purpose. I'm inclined to believe the man, but I'll be damned if I do and I'll be damned if I don't. Very bitter, very bad blood: Xian Merchants aren't even allowed in the Valley Lily Inn. I want to help out the situation, but it's extremely hairy... I'm not sure where to begin. Maybe I shouldn't get involved at all. I really do not know.
The demibeast who runs the stable in Heidel told me a trick about capturing horses: they can be beckoned with a lump of sugar. I made a few by heating mineral water with raw sugar. Because I am keen on breaking in a horse on my own one day, I took his words seriously.
I also took this opportunity to upgrade my crescent pendulum! This one has proven to do more damage than my previous one. I think it was a good investment.
Ultimately, Chanteuse and I headed back to Velia to watch the ships on the harbor. Very peaceful, even if the town is filled with way too many people.
