It's official! The Web is dead!
i'm exaggerating, of course, but the demise feels imminent. for too long now search results have been near useless unless you append "reddit" to the end of your search. otherwise you get useless clickbait articles which never get to the point, bombard you with requests to give you push notifications and to accept cookie upon cookie. and the reddit trick is dead, along with reddit! many communities are still locked down! the owners are at odds with its userbase and i can't see the animosity ever properly clearing. when it comes to websites like this, things only get worse. deterioration and collapse are inevitable.
oh, and twitter's fucked too. which it has been ever since elon took over, but with the rate limiting going on right now it is DEAD dead. i'm not on the fediverse (i just feel the community isn't quite for me) and while i am on bluesky i don't particularly like nor trust it. it feels like every month the web gets less and less usable.
i saw this tumblr post yesterday which feels very apt
the web feels like it is dying. so, of course, i've come here to geminispace. i feel i found this little section of the internet at the right time, y'know? when i've been desperate for something SIMPLE, something clean and something safe, its suddenly fallen into my lap like "hiyerrrr i think you were lookin for me" LMAO
and, yeah, it doesn't fulfil any of the things i feel are evaporating from the web - social media doesn't really exist here (and nor do i think i want it to!) and it's not any better for accessing information; Google is still winning on that front, despite search results getting worse and worse. it's just.. NICE here! the novelty has not worn off. the simplicity continues to charm and endear. as the web crumbles, i feel safe over here lol
anyway all of this is to say i think we should kill and eat elon musk x
