LIFE

10 Months Living In The Woods

Long time and no updates! I am hopeful that trend can change now.

For the last 10 months me and the rest of my pack have been living full-time in the Peopleport in the woods.

Despite worsening mental health, the experience has been generally good (mental health would likely have worsened faster had I stayed in suburbia).

Living in Suburbia is both isolating, alienating, and anxiety-inducing to me, whereas living in the woods is only isolating... The reason for this has been chiefly bad neighbors and code-enforcement... At our old house some assholes at the end of the street had it out for us and according to other neighbors we were on good terms with they literally had a binder on us documenting sleights and code-enforcement infractions. In our county as in many around the country, noncompliance with code-enforcement can eventually lead to seizure/dispossesison of your property. For this reason I spent most of over a decade at our house in fear and anxiety.

It's been several months at our new place but my anxiety over this has largely disappeared which is a relief that is really hard to put into words.

The only things I've missed by being physically isolated from society is running water and showers,.. and now during the hottest months of summer on-grid power and being able to blast the AC consistantly.

The benefits of living in the woods are many:

Waking up to the sounds of nature

Birds chirping in the mornings

Wind blowing through the trees

The shadows of leaves seen through the semi-translucent canvas roof of the Peopleport in the fall

The pitter-patter sound of rain on the roof of the Peopleport

Life returning in the Spring, flora and fauna waking up for the year

A circadium rythym which is more in-tune with the day/night cycle by necessity

Armored Dildoes (AKA Armadillos) nosing through the forest litter looking for bugs

Frogs hopping around

Laying down in the cool stream waters on hot summer days

The sight and sound of Deer walking around in the forest

Despite all this my depression has reached it's worst point and the situation has become critical. Being unable to function, in the last 10 months I've left my job and exhausted some of the final clinical options to deal with my depression. I am going to be imminantly trying ECT (Electroconvulsive therapy), ECT has a very good track record insofar as effectivity is concerned. I'm eagarly looking forward to starting ECT and the future seems promising.

I look forward to having more energy to devote to this blog as well, time will tell.
