I recently switched to XFCE on the desktop and I'm really happy with it.
I've been running Linux on the desktop since, ooh, 1995 I guess, so I've been through a lot of window managers and desktop environments over the years. More recently I've been through Gnome 3, i3, Sway, and KDE Plasma and enjoyed working in all of them. Plently of people will say that any one of these is the best but really it's just personal preference, and that's fine.
What I like about XFCE is that it's plain yet customisable, but most of all is that it doesn't mess up the windows after my screens have powered down for sleep and powered up again. Everything is back exactly where I left it. Even - to my amazement - Microsoft Teams, which always moved itself to the top left of the left-hand screen.
I think I'll stick with this one for a while.
