[2023-09-08T06:02:08Z] <brian|lfs> am I using the correct version of kiss following the default install guide? [2023-09-08T06:02:48Z] <brian|lfs> 2021.7-9 seems a bit old [2023-09-08T06:22:38Z] <brian|lfs> is there no mlocate or findutils? [2023-09-08T06:22:44Z] <brian|lfs> can't seem to find them [2023-09-08T07:38:58Z] <Doomking> https://codeberg.org/kiss-community/repo/releases [2023-09-08T07:39:25Z] <Doomking> The latest one release is April 30th 2023 [2023-09-08T07:45:40Z] <Doomking> @sewn Yeah, I did a dumb mistake with the /boot and cause a mess with my machine. Side note: I need to stop staying up 4am... rip my sleeping schedule [2023-09-08T14:25:59Z] <Guest81> Hello, is there really no way to avoid compiling your own kernel with kiss? I'm kind of lost because all the tutorials on how to do it show minimalistic configurations but having a gaming pc i need to bake a lot of specific firmware into the kernel and i plan to use bluetooth, hdmi, and wifi. I know other people might have done it and my case is [2023-09-08T14:26:00Z] <Guest81> not that hard but i'm struggling to find resources for how to know your hardware and what it needs, how to find the needed firmware (i have looked at kisscommunity.org but it does not provide instructions for bluetooth). It would be easier to use a prebuilt kernel, even a little bloated, that would work out of the box. [2023-09-08T14:35:09Z] <illiliti> it's possible to use prebuilt kernel, but that needs even more involvement from you to get it working [2023-09-08T14:36:43Z] <illiliti> since prebuild kernel(e.g from arch) uses external modules, you will need initramfs [2023-09-08T14:38:11Z] <Guest81> I am willing to put in the effort, but aren't you the guy that made tinyramfs? since you are on the official kiss wiki i once saw the github repo of it [2023-09-08T14:39:21Z] <illiliti> yeah [2023-09-08T14:41:32Z] <Guest81> what is the best prebuilt kernel you think? i would rather not use arch as i had problems with arch based distributions not booting on my computer, probably a skill issue [2023-09-08T14:42:22Z] <Guest81> i think why not void i just remember that i couldn't make my printer work when i was using it but its probably not kernel related [2023-09-08T14:43:07Z] <illiliti> well it does not really matter which since all are generic, but i would pick one from void or alpine linux [2023-09-08T14:45:03Z] <Guest81> i will go with void then [2023-09-08T14:52:30Z] <Guest81> and sorry but how do i get the void kernel, just get a void iso and fetch vmlinuz and system.map? [2023-09-08T14:55:22Z] <illiliti> you need to fetch linux package and extract it [2023-09-08T14:56:13Z] <illiliti> or how it is called, i don't remember [2023-09-08T14:56:57Z] <illiliti> you probably also need to fetch package that contains modules if they are separated from linux package [2023-09-08T14:58:43Z] <Guest81> well i'll do my research now that i know that it is possible [2023-09-08T15:57:15Z] <Doomking> People have mentioned about pre-build kernel in the subreddit r/kiss, it's old post but the question is relevant still [2023-09-08T15:59:00Z] <Doomking> Also, if you fetch only the vmlinuz and System.map then it's not going to work as illiliti mentioned how it needs other files since that was made for their distro [2023-09-08T16:28:18Z] <Doomking> I was wondering, what's the difference between selecting "generic-x86-64" then "core 2 - newer xeon?" Will there be a performance impact from not selecting the most optimal selection? [2023-09-08T16:29:05Z] <Doomking> whoops grammar error, should've been "than" not "then" [2023-09-08T16:30:11Z] <Doomking> Feel like it's easier to just select "generic-x86-64," but not sure if I'll lose out on some speedup from not selecting the "better" option [2023-09-08T16:32:01Z] <Doomking> I guess "better" was the wrong word, I really meant the "correct" option which should theoretically be better [2023-09-08T16:39:11Z] <Doomking> Oooh this is a nice patch: https://github.com/graysky2/kernel_compiler_patch [2023-09-08T18:22:11Z] <Doomking> So I originally had an intel cpu pc, but now I have amd cpu pc and I can't figure out how to fix the issue with mesa [2023-09-08T18:25:16Z] <Doomking> Keep getting "fatal error: intel/dev/intel_wa.h: No such file or directory" but it's to be expected as I don't have intel
