I'll probably use this to microblog and have more open interaction in geminispace.
You'll otherwise find me skulked away at ctrl-c.club when I'm around these parts of the net.
I sit here as rain softly pitterpatters the porch, drops plinking on the metal rain gutter. A candle on the table lends aid to the little light bulb of the kitchen counter's lamp. I'm sipping some tea, I've gone through my nightly ritual of packing up my stuff for work the next day, and I'm reflecting on the beauty and simplicity of sitting and doing nothing after a long day of travel, errands, and a few chores. I've had the opportunity to catch up with some people lately that I don't always...

2024 will likely be my Fading of the Elves year. I've spent the last couple of years really involved in a handful of online communities. I've also spent a good bit of time analyzing my values, where I spend my time and money, versus where I ultimately want to be doing those things. And I find there's some gaps. If I intend to spend more of my time and money doing things locally, buying things at local markets, and getting to know my neighbors and people around my area... Why am I adminning...

It was bound to happen eventually, with how religious and hot blooded people are about the stuff. Now like many other places/protos, Gemini's infected with reddit-tier hellthreads about politics on the forum space. Lovely. I'm gonna go bake some bread.

I continually reflect on how big of a deal it would actually be, long term, to lose the last 20 years of IT progress. Cell phones on 3G are bleeding-edge, that's far as it goes. Dial-up internet still has a place in the world, and in many cases 56K is still as fast as you'll get. CD-ROMs (or if you're ritzy, DVD's) are still the Lingua Franca for transferring bulk data, most affordable USB sticks scarcely carry 256MB. Social media as we know it simply didn't exist; IRC and things like AIM...

Learning about how the earth has progressed on a geological timescale helps you appreciate the beauty of life and the planet we live on. It also gives a dark humor quality to how we've managed to toss things up so effectively within not even three centuries since industrialization. It took billions of years for life to grow and change and eventually even become multicellular. Buy a new phone every year, and you can become multicellular in a much faster timeline. Except, your achievement is...

At long last, I'm back on BBS! It's been about 5 weeks since I last interacted with BBS, because it's been about that long? I think? Since my previous computer met a gravity-assisted fate. I did the math on whether or not it was worth it to procure replacement parts, some special tools, possibly, and then gamble even getting it right with the repair AND that there's not more stuff inside which my untrained (for verifying integrity of a board, anyway) eyes would miss. So long story short, I...
