H.G. Wells is suffering from the modern scientific Fact-Cult when he believes we can reunify knowledge by his plan of a "world encyclopædia." He seems to think that the gathering and systematic presentation of data confers upon the scientist a Godlike wisdom, that facts are cold figures, and the human mind is like an adding machine, and that if you put all the facts into the machine, you will automatically draw out the correct, infallible answer and the world will then be saved. The folly of this conception is beyond belief. We are suffering not from lack of facts, but rather from too many and from lack of judgment.

Berners-Lee named his first hypertext system Enquire, after an old book, he found as a child in his parent's house called Enquire Within upon Everything which provided a range of household tips and advice. The book fascinated young Tim with the suggestion that it magically contained the answer to any problem in the world. With the building of the Enquire system in 1980, and then the Web ten years later, Berners-Lee has pretty much successfully dedicated his life to making that childhood book real.

Project Gutenberg gopher service is down. I reported this and received a response that this is due to pygopherd not working on their systems, because it does not support Python version 3 nor version 2.7. "We hope the Gopher server software will be updated in the future, so we can again offer a Gopher service via Project Gutenberg. We do not have an estimated timeline for restoring the service."

My certificate expires in a couple of years. Is there any process to renew one's certificate? What should i do? I could just delete my station account now and start afresh with a new certificate that expires in 100 years.

I have been thinking about where to get my next retro-computing fix. I lean toward emulators because i am more interested in software than hardware. Thinking about trying OpenMSX, Nextor, and SDCC. I was pleased to find that OpenMSX uses TCL to control the emulation. I am curious to hear about emulators for 8-bit platforms other than MSX. Which have you enjoyed using, and what made it fun for you?
