About Freth

Home

This section covers the things I do in my free time on my computer at home.

Overview

I have been a hobbyist power computer user since 1984, and have decades of experience in all things computer.

I am fairly new to Linux, having only started dabbling several years ago. I am proficient, but still have a lot to learn.

I joined ctrl-c.club to be a part of the community and give something of myself through my creative pursuits.

My Computer Hobby

Using a computer as a creative outlet has been a lifelong hobby of mine. Here are some of the things I enjoy.

I will expand on each of these later when I have time.

Work

This section covers my career in telecommunications.

Overview

I worked 30 years for a Fortune 500 telecommunications company. I maintained the telecommunications network of one of the fastest growing areas in my state.

Telecommunications Network

I installed and maintained all hardware and software in the telecommunications network, including the power plant. Every system was proprietary and different.

My area consisted of 12 offices and approximately 80 remote sites, servicing an area the size of 450 square miles.

The offices had 2 tandem GTD-5 base units, an STP switch, and 8 remote switching units.

In addition to the offices and remotes, I installed and maintained fiber fed systems and equipment at business customer sites ranging from data centers to corporate offices, cell sites and small businesses.

I worked in both the offices and the field regularly. I was also responsible for isolating trouble on fiber and copper between sites.

Retirement

I retired from my career several years ago at the age of 49. I now live a life of leisure.
