we have to invent, build, refine and constantly further develop our own values system once we let go of a predefined one, like religion. hence it takes a life to learn how to die in peace.
for me that meant finding purpose and aligning my actions with that purpose. it made me immensely happier through rebalancing pleasure with the pain of working hard towards my purposeful goals. it made me want to live longer while at the same time not fearing death as much any more. it’s odd. · 9 months ago
nietzsche said it well: “Gott ist todt! Gott bleibt todt! · 9 months ago
I'd like to quote Seneca :
"But learning how to live takes a whole life, and, which may surprise you more, it takes a whole life to learn how to die…"
"So you must not think a man has lived long because he has white hair and wrinkles: he has not lived long, just existed long."
If nothing matters and life is pointless, so be it. As long as you consider yourself a decent human, you've won the game :) · 9 months ago
I get where you're coming from. If you look at the world at large any one action, or even lifetime of actions can seem so insignificant as to be meaningless.
I will probably never do anything that changes the world, but we all have a sphere of influence. A group of people that we directly or indirectly effect. I focus on those people.
In the end all we have is right now, and that's kind of freeing in a way. We can just be. · 9 months ago
