Queen City BBS: Elmira, NY
queencitybbs.ddns.net:607
Welcome to the Queen City BBS Gemlog
I like SyncTERM as a client for looking at Telnet BBSs so here's the link for that:
https://syncterm.bbsdev.net/
And if you're reading this on a Mac or iDevice the MacOS has a great terminal called Muffinterm:
https://muffinterm.app/
Android just dosen't seem to be able to give us as nice of a terminal. I've got ConnectBot but I don't really like it.

- A lot of you might be new to the BBS scene. Back in the mid 80's thru the mid 90's this was our internet. We didn't quite have what we enjoy today. We often called with a telephone modem to another computer that hosted the BBS. Today you're using Telent to "call into" a Raspberry Pi 3b+ on my bookcase.
- BBS's are sort of like what we call forums now. Communication is the goal of this site, and there is a file area for uploads/downloads as well. In the Message Area, you'll find the local and the fsxNet message areas. These areas are sort of like forums. You can read and reply on topics.
- BBS's have levels of access. As a new user, you'll have authority to explore the site but can't post anything. If you want to have your prov ledges elevated, contact the SYSOP. You can always write the SYSOP.
The Purpose of the Queen City BBS
- to return to a slower, more thoughtful internet
- to provide the area a way to experience this communication mode
- to learn about and experiment with computers!
Queen City is the moniker of the City of Elmira, NY.
Said to have come from the travel writer William MacLeod in 1851 in Harper’s New York and Erie Railroad Guide. It was only two years prior, in 1849, that the railroad had arrived in Elmira.
“Elmira is the Queen City along New York and Erie Railroad, and is a good specimen of the towns that seem to exhale from the American soil …”
As the city grew from a small village to a major rail crossroads, it's hoped that having an area wide Telnet site can help our communities stay connected.
Policy
- Queen City BBS will not tolerate bad faith actors or anyone attempting to use the site for illegal/illicit actions.
- Queen City BBS will make available exclusive spaces upon request for communities that feel the need for extra layers of security. Women, LBGTQ+, etc need only inquire with the SYSOP.
Connectivity
- Queen City BBS has local level message bases
- Queen City BBS is an fsxNet affiliated BBS. These message bases have a global reach.
News:
- Queen City BBS has added new local message bases.
- Conlang - A place to explore language. Esperanto & Ido
- Yiddishkehit - A place for the tribe to gather. (Secure base)
