New web hotel

After ten years at the same web hotel I decided to move everything on my main site (not this capsule) to another one. The process was far more complicated than just setting up a new domain. For a few days my e-mail didn't work, then I managed to set it up almost correctly. I never figured out if it would be possible to somehow merge the previously stored inbox with the newly created blank inbox. Maybe it's not the kind of thing people do.

My website was offline for about a week, until I found out where to put the files. Someone even sent me an e-mail complaining that my site was unreachable. It was because I had pointed to it in a composition contest. Yes, I'm usually against such a thing, and it didn't exactly boost confidence that this big French institution forced the entrants to use a google form (Degooglisons ? Pas forcement !) and that they had chosen to cooperate with some organisation promoting artists through NFTs. A few words of commentary about the piece is customary, but they required a short essay and a video as documentation. Although I have made videos, animations mostly, it's not in my regular workflow and it takes lots of time, even for a few minutes of video. Anyway, I made this for the lulz:

Kolmogorov Variations explained

I will neither recommend nor disparage the previous web hotel, I shall not even mention their name. Suffice it to say that their customer service became somewhat servile and desperate as soon as I hinted it was time to leave, with various "irresistible" offers of discounts. Maybe the tipping point was a message they sent where they introduced their new services that offered to design web pages and create content with an AI assistant. They are also one of those companies that solicit feedback on the "experience" with their customer service, something I'm reluctant to offer unless I have serious complaints, given the probability that such feedback will be used as an excuse to discipline or lay off workers.

The new web hotel is smaller and operates closer to where I'm located. They offer a little bit less storage at the same price and may not have all the functionalities of the previous one. I tried to ask their customer service if it would be possible to host gemini pages, but they didn't reply. Well, at least I tried. With the frustrating experience of trying to get everything right, I do not think I would like to try to run my own server.
