Hey everyone, this is amazing.
I got a domain name for 1 dollar and you're telling me there's no limit to how big a website I can put in it? Up to what I can store, of course. It's only on a little raspberry pi and there are exactly 100 Megabytes still free on it.
"a megabyte of data can roughly be: [...] a typical English book volume in plain text format"
I could write 100 novels on here before running out of space, an ambition which will not nearly be filled. If I shoot for it you might get a few paragraphs out of me.
And what's a subdomain? It's the "www" part of "www.yourdomain.com", or any other pre- words you see around. Can I stick any word I want there? Can I have as many as I like of those too?
Can I get a different protocol to access my different subdomains? I could fit a https site and a pleroma instance on there too, although maybe I need a second raspberry pi at that point.
This is a lot of space! I can't believe they're just letting me, an ordinary person, have this.
I feel like I'm new to "the internet" and ignorant, even though of course I have been looking the internet since the 90s, when I was a little kid and my dad had a lab mac.
I have a website and I'm very excited about it. We are surfing the web, and might stay up all night to do it. It's all very retro, except I wasn't really around the first time.
All this vaguely pinged up something in my brain, a few passages about surfing the web and punning on a program called DeepArcher; I dug out my copy of "Bleeding Edge" to maybe re-read next. Whatever was going on in there?
When I was a kid I spent a lot of time recalling things I'd read, whether ten minutes ago or years ago, and slowly making connections.
Anyone can endeavor to go out into the world (i.e. wikipedia) and find out what "Bleeding Edge" is, or more likely not bother. It can be just another unimportant mystery to you until it comes up in your life again, or not.
Certainly no hyperlinks to the http web on my capsule.
I understand my color scheme on Lagrange browser is randomly picked out based on my domain name. I can change how I see it, but I can't change what other people see. But is everyone else using Lagrange on "Colorful Dark" getting the same color scheme from the same hash?
It's not what I would have chosen but I guess I'm getting used to a delicious raspberry cream pink. At least it's not an orange.
