There are a lot of files out there that have "bookmarks".
A lot of those files are created automatically by a program like a web browser. A lot of them don't have any bookmarks in them. But they do say something like, "put your bookmarks here".
A lot of them do have bookmarks in a markup format like XML. Why go to all this trouble?
