The workaround is to open the image link in a new tab, so not a huge issue but could be fixed at some point.

When accessing a Gemini capsule serving Gemtext, an expired certificate can easily be accepted with the non-modal section at the bottom of the page or by clicking the lock icon in the URL bar, which will display the content of the page. This doesn't work for inline images, which are hot-linked and reside on another server with an expired certificate, because a modal dialog appears, which can only be dismissed.
