So when I'm working I like to put on a movie/tv show, but I prefer either stuff I've seen before, or stuff that I can tune out for 5-10 minutes and have missed virtually nothing, like reality tv shows. For whatever reason, listening to music for long hours by myself makes my brain feel lonely, and it starts rattling around like a lost cat, yowling at nothing. Background people chatter keeps me on task longer. I rewatch a lot of favorite movies, especially long ones like the Lord of the Rings special edition. I've figured out that MST3K/rifftrax make for absolutely perfect project background movies. Amazon prime video has some freebies and (despite amazon's cleverest attempts to hide all the free ones and trick me into paying money) I have watched all the free ones available, sometimes several times. I recently figured out that MST3K seasons 1-10 are available, but through an AMC subscription channel that is normally $9 a month. BUT!!! For prime day, the AMC subscription price dropped to 99 cents for the first two months! So now I have access to hours and hours of MST3Ks for the next two months!! (And then I will cancel.) By far the most exciting, best value thing I have ever got out of prime day.
I've always wanted to watch the old MST3Ks in order. I did catch some when they were originally on, but they ran too late at night for me to watch regularly, as I remember sneaking down to the basement to watch them on the black and white TV with the sound turned low. Plus I was a bit young and a lot of the jokes went over my head. I knew it was really funny, but sometimes I didn't know exactly why. Way better watching as an adult. They are the PERFECT project movies. 1) the movie itself is terrible. 2) there's lots of companionable people chatter, like funny friends in your living room you never have to feed snacks. 3) one can tune in for a joke or two, then tune out and miss nothing. So head's up, if you like MST3K and tolerate giving amazon money for prime video. I think the deal only lasts through tomorrow, 6/22.
I'm contemplating getting a rifftrax monthly subscription. I would def get my money's worth out of it. I asked spouse if I could deduct it as a business expense (he minored in accounting, therefore he is our accountant) and he says no. Which I think is crap. I should get a less scrupulous accountant.
Otherwise prime day is yet another sad circus of budget clowns and stale peanuts. Some of the used items from amazon warehouse items are 25% off, but only some. If you enjoy gambling on amazon warehouse stuff.
