How is it that station has managed to recapture the early social media era feeling of, "I don't know who this stranger I'm talking to is, and it feels strange in a good way to say something to them." I love it!

if I end up acquiring an IBM 6400 line printer (dot matrix at 1000 lines a minute) would anyone be interested in a print service? like, for a small fee ($5 or so), print anything you want on that famous green and white striped paper. I'm having ideas tonight!!

Already have the printers and punches up and running on my VM/CMS emulation. Waaaaay farther than I've ever gotten with MVS already.

Decided to edit the config file for VM/370 six pack; I now (symbolically) run an IBM 370/168 with eight 3420 tape drives and six 3350 DASD disk drives... and two printers. cuz why not :D

Decided to get back into mainframing again; This time I set up Hercules and VM/370 CMS on my very old and unused Raspberry Pi 2. Runs well tbh. and I'm really warming up to CMS already; feels more natural than MVS. Screen vs Interactive interface might've been the pain point with me honestly. We'll see!

Is there already an email-like gemini-only message service? if not, is there any interest for one? Would love to work on something like that, and try using LDPL as a backend processing language. Sounds fun tbh!

This might be a very frequently asked question; But my cert is expiring here in a few months. is there any way I could renew / extend it without losing the accounts this identity is tied to? x.x

On digital (computer) currencies: What if the notion of a Blockchain was dropped? What if, instead, the currency emerged from nothing but archaic bureaucracy? Records, reports, and old fashioned data processing. For fun...

Will be working on a digital currency project that uses obscure hardware, to put the fun back into computer money. won't be cryptocurrency or a payment processor. let me know if anyone's interested.

I have a fully functioning Macintosh Performa 640CD. Any ideas on how to get it connected to the smolnet? Thinking modem + voip + free/cheap dialup?

Could anyone provide links to how to implement authentication logic on Gemini pages? Like how one authenticates with their self-signed cert on station or Astrobotany?

Had an amazing time at Midwest Furfest. spent nearly the whole con in my suite with someone who quickly became my world. told him tonight I fell in love with him. and he said he thinks he feels the same way. Couldn't be happier 💜🧡

Hmm... peer to peer text only mastodon? or twtxt?
💬 3 Replies · 0 Thumbs · 2 years ago
What other text only internet protocols exist? Currently know of Gopher, Gemini, Netamict, and Line Mode Browser if that sounds! What else is out there?

Been into Bitcoin since 2011. It, and crypto, has changed too much to be fun anymore. Makes me want to build a smolnet (and probably centralized) digital money system. Where the numbers themselves are the money. Anyone want to help?

Been learning Standard ML lately. Started as a stepping stone to Haskell, but... I've grown kind of fond of it. Helps me think functionally tbh!
