skyjake.fi is up and running again.

Turns out the problem was not as dire as I feared. There was a loose power cable blocking the CPU fan from turning, which was causing the CPU to overheat. The cable must've been near the fan already since it's been rattling, but the hard knock pushed it in fully.

Hopefully nothing got damaged while it was running at max temp for a few hours without a fan...

Clicked unter instead of shift enter - continuing :D*

But it is worth it I fully agree, but on the bad days it still makes me think ^^

VM/containers makes it way easier indeed for migrating and backup :) · 2 years ago

@skyjake: Oh I'm all for selfhosting (except for my mail server) so I know the pain (including sdcard dying, ip changing, power outage and all that :D) · 2 years ago

@bacardi55 It's true that self-hosting has its downsides, but the upside of having full ownership and control of your data is much greater. :)

I should convert all of my servers to VMs, though, making it easier to migrate them should the hardware fail at some point. And you could do backups via cloning, too. · 2 years ago

The joy of selfhosting :)

Glad to see it was not a huge issue :) · 2 years ago
