A few weeks ago, I purchased a laptop from System76 running "POP OS". Pop OS is a derivative of Ubuntu with a modified GNOME desktop. Lately, I hav been using Alpine Linux on my Desktop and a raspberry pi and have been thinking of trying Alpine on the new laptop as well.
I also purchased an Ender 3 3D printer (open source). It works really well. The only problem that I have had so far is that Octoprint on a Raspberry PI does not connect with the printer due to an error with the firmware on the printer. From what I have found so far upgrading the firmware on the printer does not look as simple as I would like and I am nervous about attempting an upgrade.
In other news, I noticed that Alpine linux has a new release out (3.14.0) which among other changes such as Lua 5.4.3 also mentioned that "fail2ban" has been disabled due to test failures and they recommended a switch to "sshguard" instead. I checked out the sshguard website which looks interesting. I am running fail2ban on several public sites and would like to play with sshguard to see about possibly replacing fail2ban especially if it offers better security and hopefully will be easier to configure.
