TENS of thousands of people nationwide have taken part in the annual
Darkness Into Light fundraiser this morning, Saturday, May 11.
It all began back in 2009 in the Phoenix Park when 400 people set off
on the inaugural 5km walk to raise funds for Pieta. Now there are over
150,000 participants each year.  It has raised over €36 million to
enable Pieta to provide services to people impacted by suicide and
self-harm.
Participants took place in the event this morning in Limerick city at
TUS Moylish Campus.
The initiative has been picked up with 51 new walks being held in
Ireland this year.
The event kicked off at 4.15am and it is estimated over 100k people
participated by walking, running, cycling and even swimming as the sun
rose.
