A pool of rain water on the inside of the track at one end of the velodrome; magpies[1] and noisy miners[2] keep flying down for a splash and a drink or to search for food. Riding around the track the inner area is the haunt of the swallows[3], swooping low and fast across the grass then racing me around the turn at the eastern end
