So What's Your Story?

[tags: atheism]

[date: 2013-05-06]

"So what's your story?"

With no prior setup, I was asked that question during a final interview by the CEO of the company that I now work for. That's a hell of a question, and it briefly took me off guard. It's not merely "How are you qualified?" or "What can you bring to the table here?". It's also:

Obviously the till-now focus of this blog isn't exactly relevant to my answer... except where it is.

Because at the end of the day, I am me. I cannot be split into simple compartments. I cannot split my disbelief in the supernatural from my technical, scientific side. My disbelief in a "god" very directly correlates with my motivation, responsibility, and self-direction. My compassion for those around me hits the "let god sort them out" mentality head-on. My scientific curiosity exists because there is neither marionette nor manipulator.

I've been thinking for a long time that I should have a separate blog to track what I learn on the technical side. I suppose I have been contaminated, so to speak, by reading the excellent "The Friendly Atheist" blog. It's so good and so focused on rational thought, that it's easy to forget Hemant is actually a real person with (most likely) more dimensions than presented in the blog. It takes extreme dedication and perseverance to create a good, focused blog. We are complex creatures, and our various facets are inter-related. Projecting a few dimensions onto a plane (so to speak) and blogging what occurs on that plane is very difficult. It's a job, actually, but I already have multiple of those (I have kids, after all).

Rather than try to slice and dice myself, let's just admit that this is my blog. Filter on labels, if anyone cares.

__And I got the job.__
