Hydrology

Hydrology is the study of the movement and distribution of water on a planet (e.g. Earth).

Water projects in the United States have often proceeded despite the warnings of hydrologists. West of the hundredth meridian, where the country is significantly more arid, the Bureau of Reclamation and Army Corps of Engineer had a decades long rivalry to secure more "pork barrel" funding for dam projects that made little ecological or economic sense. This story is told with real flair in "Cadillac Desert".
