Date : Dec 9, 2019 Beer : Underground Mountain Brown Source : Founders Style : Brown Ale City : Grand Rapids, MI ABV : 11.9%
"Underground Mountain Brown is the harmonious drinking experience only achieved when our imperial brown ale, earthy sumatra coffee and a year aging in caves below Grand Rapids come together. A team of malts compliment the bold sumatra coffee perfectly, while time spent immersed in oak creates layers of depth and complexity. A celebration of the barrel, the bean and everything in between."
After yesterday's Imperial Stout, this bourbon barrel-aged beer from Founders is tame in comparison. The texture is light and airy like a cola. There's very little sweetness here, the bourbon is front and center as the dominant flavor. The coffee lingers behind and starts to peek through in the aftertaste. Overall it's a well balanced beer.
Founders keeps getting stellar ratings on beer advocate but personally I don't get the hype. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent brown and I enjoyed drinking it. I wasn't blown away though. It was kind of meh.
If it was on sale, sure.
This was surprisingly easy to drink for a 12% ABV. I could easily knock back four or more bottles.
