I feel that I have a lot of contradictions about myself that I need to sort out. I'm a data science major, training for a career path that is one of the main proprietors of privacy invasions by Google, the NSA, and everything inbetween. I know I can find a morally sound job in the field (I'd give my left leg for a gig at NASA), but I wish that a love of statistics and computing wouldn't be so often utilized to harm people's agency.
Aside from the privacy-invasion part of social media and other online consumption, I'm always trying to limit screen usage regarding useless dopamine streams such as Instagram, most of YouTube and Netflix, and such. On the other hand, my screen time is jacked up over the hours I spend on random linux things such as configuring this server. I'd argue that it's at the very least productive that I'm learning a skill, but it feels like a shallow defense.
I've also gotten away from social media and the like to force myself to interact more in-person with other people and create more genuine bonds with the world instead of from behind a computer screen. I'm also writing a gemlog that only strangers will read.
Perhaps contradictions are what make me human.
