Solar alert

Issued on 2023 Apr 16 1251 UTC

A halo coronal mass ejection (CME) has been observed by SOHO/LASCO C2 and C3 coronagraphs. It was seen for the first time at 01:25UT on April 16 in the SOHO/LASCO C2 field of view. The CME is related to the filament eruption, observed around 23:00 UT on April 15 in the North-West quadrant near NOAAAR 3277. While the bulk of the CME is off the Sun-Earth line, a glancing blow could reach Earth in the late evening of April 18 or in the first half of April 19th. In case of arrival, active geomagnetic conditions can be expected with possibly associated minor storm conditions.
