An X2.2-class flare with peak time 20:16 UTC on February 17 was produced by NOAA AR 3229 near the north east limb. This event was associated with a dimming, EUV wave and Type II radio burst.
In STA/COR2 beacon images a corresponding asymmetric halo Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is visible from around 20:38UT. Although the bulk of the CME is directed towards the north east, an impact at Earth is also expected. A full analysis of an estimated CME arrival time will be made when further LASCO/C2 data become available.
Further M-class flares are likely with chance for more isolated X-class flares from the same region.
