My scheme has been characters from William Gibson's books. Not too original I guess, but I've had lots of fun with it.
My main desktop is always Molly. My main server was Case, which got virtualised on to a newer iteration I called Ashpool, which has since been renamed after recent threadripper upgrade to Tessier. My backup server is Jane, laptop is hollis, media PC was Jane, but is now Cherry.
As I started to utilise containers for a number of network functions, I just named the containers after their purpose. Physical machines will always get a name though :)
I had thought to call my markov bot's host flatline or dixie, but twitter dropped API support for some of the things I was doing and I gave up on that project. Maybe I should turn it into a mastodon bot...
Yeah, a bit excessive. I could probably drop the Pis and put the GPS dongles on one of the servers and the edgeroute. And with the upgrades to the main server (24TB of RAID 6) I could probably drop the second server as well, but it's nice having two copies of things like the family photos, documents, emails etc.
