Well, shit. I still have this tiny little slice of server space with the goofy snake on it.
I didn't lose interest so much as I went extremely offline. Got a lotta painting done, at least. Spent a lotta time with my cat. Really the only obstacle to updating is that I'm too lazy to resize all the images for this largely imageless format. Writing text posts is fun, and I have a script for updating, so I should absolutely be doing this more.
I feel like I should be posting about painting. I should be writing about wholesome activities like cleaning the studio or assembling a new panel to paint on. That seems oddly appropriate for Gemini, which has always given me the same vibe as one of those amber library terminals. Technology, but with scratchy orange carpet and the ambient smell of suburban municipal buildings circa 1989. That's why I like it.
But it's a nostalgic affection. I like it because it recalls a time when "online" was a destination you had to visit intentionally, and because it feels like an artifact from an alternate present where the internet isn't a universal entertainment platform. Through its finiteness, it reminds us that the offline world still exists -- that's where you have to go if you want more than plain text.
The big problem with being offline is, how the hell do you tell anyone about it?
