As I reflect more on this gemlog's raison d' etre, I realize that the reason it didn't happen sooner was that I undervalued self-expression. I practice vocal self-expression, but it feels spontaneous. Writing leaves a record, however, and forces asynchronous reflection. Here begins my long descent into self, a harrowing of Hades (not unaccompanied) followed by a resurrection.
