Like the hardest part in making a hobby operating system is poering a web browser. Who in the right mind thought that making such monolith of a app to be a good idea.

I aslo don't quite agree with the unix phylosophy or whatever that it, as more integration is sometimes usefull and those small programs encourage hacks.

Writing a gemini client/server can, ironically, teach you a lot about the web too.

Yep, something which I have sadly fallen onto. I should eliminate the technical debt that I'be created in some programs, which are more hacks than anything else.

I don't think it /was/ anybody in their right mind. Or wrong mind, for that matter.

It's more like uncontrolled, rapid evolution at work with a lot of "just deploy it, standards are for chumps".

And then somehow, we all got stuck using it like a non-cohesive, messy universal operating system that runs Javascript. No one signed up for this, but your life has to revolve around it.

And it's that last part that I find the hardest pill to swallow.

What I really like about the gemini protocol is the fact that it's so small and easy that literally everyone who's at least a bit tech savvy can write both server and client in like a week. No matter if it's terminal or gui, if it supports CGI or not. This feels so liberating after being forced to experience the monstrosity called "modern web"
