What do you think of the Kagi search engine that I have been hearing so much about lately? It bothers me that we are at a point that people are willing to pay 10$ per month just for a good meta search engine. What bothers me more is that people don't shill good searxng instances that do the same thing but are hosted out of pocket by ulturistic every day hobbiest and not yet another company asking for yet another subscription while promising they are totally different from the other guys.

They're throwing their money and time into Yet Another Glorified Autocomplete Posing As "Artificial Intelligence", so fuck them.

I used the free trial a while ago and really enjoyed the results. it was much much better than any mainstream search engine or searx instance I've used. I never moved on to the paid version though.

good searxng instances

do you have any recommendations? I've tried a few instances, but the results have never been great.

I Love paulgo.io and use it every day.

Someone also introduced me to 4get today, an alternative open source meta search engine made by one person unhappy with searx. it actually seems to have pretty decent results

I'll give paulgo a try over the coming days. I've used 4get before but it was often worse than just using duckduckgo and just gave me a lot of generated content

something kagi mentions in their docs is that one of the ways they mitigate SEO manipulation is that they downrank sites that have ads/trackers. I suspect this is one of the major reasons why its results are so nice, since clickbait and ai generated articles typically load themselves up with as many ad services as they can. Does searx(ng) have a way for the instance owner to affect page rank?
