Ibn Ezra on Leviticus 13:48

Home

Torah

48 ‎[1] OR IN THE WARP, OR IN THE WOOF. The meaning of *sheti* (warp) and *erev* (woof) is known. It is possible that the word *sheti* is related to the word *shet* (buttocks) in *ve-chasufe shet* (buttocks uncovered) (Is. 20:4) wherein the word *shet* means the foundation, as the clause *When the foundations* (ha-shatot) *are destroyed* (Ps. 11:3) proves.

‎[2] The word *erev* (woof) refers to that which is mixed with the warp.

‎[3] OR IN THE SKIN. As it is.

‎[4] OR IN ANY THING MADE OF SKIN. Such as a *coverlet* (II Kings 8:15) or a bottle (Jud. 4:19).
