Ibn Ezra on Leviticus 19:35

Home

Torah

35 ‎[1] [YE SHALL DO NO UNRIGHTEOUSNESS.] Scripture states, *Ye shall do no unrighteousness* because it earlier dealt with the stranger. Our verse is similar to *and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him* (Deut. 1:16). You shall similarly not cheat in measurements; that is, you shall not deceive in measuring cubits, for the cubits vary. It is also possible that the meaning of *in judgment* is according to the known practice of the land.
