👽 falschdenker

A while ago I started writing shell scripts again and it's fun. I wrote my own shell script to manage a todo list and I am reading an old book "The Unix Programming Environment" as well now.

It features some tools I have never even heard of, like od.

It's also interesting to read about the history of some tools like sed.

I never knew that grep and sed originally came from ed!

You should look into Multics (and CTSS) too. Multics gets ignored too often when most of Unix's features came from Multics and CTSS.

I wrote an article on Unix Shell History here, in case you are interested: gemini://auragem.letz.dev/~clseibold/20230924_ShellHistory_Unix.gmi · 7 months ago
