THE DELETE FUNCTION Access the DELETE function from the WORK menu. Use DELETE to remove files and folders from ProDOS volumes. Source files are subject to filter tests before passing to DELETE or for source wild card file name matching. Follow these steps when performing a DELETE operation: (1). Determine if the correct filters are switched on for USE (if any). (2). Determine that used FILTERS are correctly set. (3). Determine that the OPTION menu switches are set to your satisfaction. (4). Determine if the source path is correctly made. (5). Select the BEGIN button. (6). If desired, suspend the DELETE operation by holding down the mouse button. (7). Use the CONTINUE button to continue the deletion process at the point where you suspended the operation. INITIAL STATES FOR THE SOURCE PATH DESCRIPTOR: There are four initial states for the source path. The source path may indicate: (1). a volume, (2). a directory, (3). a file, (4). a wild card file name. Results of trying to DELETE: (A). on a directory or volume: attempts to delete the contents of the folder or volume and then attempts to delete the folder; (B). on a file: if the file passes, deletes the file; (C). on a wild card file name: attempts to delete passing, matching file names starting from source path folder. An example of DELETE on a folder: Source: :A:Utilities Result: :A <-- 'Utilities' folder no longer exists. An example of DELETE with a source wild card file name: Source: :A:U? Passes: :A:Utilities:Undo :A:Utilities Result: :A <-- 'Utilities' folder and 'Undo' no longer exist. OPTIONS See the documentation describing OPTIONS. BUTTON ACTIONS IN THE DELETE WINDOW See the documentation describing common controls. DELETE MISCELLANEOUS DELETE will not report access denied errors that occur when FP attempts to delete a directory but still contains sapling files. Use the CHOOSE PATH button to quickly determine if any source files remain after a DELETE operation.
