The more time I spend surfing gemini the more it stands out to me how terrible modern web design has become. My classes have some online content that only ever renders on half the screen, regardless of screen size, because EVERYTHING is stuck into an iframe. I can't figure out what it is they're trying to accomplish by doing that. There's so much styling and javascript that it takes as long to load a single page as it would to load a PDF containing the entire course content. It's wild.

Responsive Web Design is a joke if compared how well Gemini capsule can adapt the text on every client, and how is good on mobile devices...

Web design for educational systems/universities is some of the worst. It’s funny because you think it would be better than median, but nope. My school uses Oracle PeopleSoft and Okta 2FA. They are both the clunkiest dysfunctional systems I have ever used.

Canvas is just a teeny bit better. · 1 year ago

Everything in an iframe? That’s straight out of Geocities lol · 1 year ago

I wish I could say this was an example that stands out as unusually bad design but from what I can tell, this is fairly normal. I'm legitimately curious about the "everything in an iframe" thing. Is there a purpose to leaving half the screen blank? · 1 year ago
