My psoriasis got soooooooo much worse when the war started but somehow 90% of it disappeared suddenly and now I feel like the last ~5 years with chronic illness never happened. Every day I find something surprising, like strength in my hands, better ability cope with tension and anxiety, or increased concentration and problem solving ability. I feel like I underwent some magical "body swap" procedure.
I'm thinking of building a game in the style of https://www.kingdomofloathing.com/ over Gemini and ActivityPub. Any interest in this?
Had a lot of fun implementing a new protocol in Lagrange, Kristall and gplaces! Three different software development cultures https://i.imgur.com/WlUV9oJ.png https://i.imgur.com/W4bgw68.png https://i.imgur.com/FEHXIcC.png
It's war time again, and I'm spending more time on https://github.com/dimkr/tootik to chill and distract myself. Now it supports polls, has a nested thread view, it understands more kinds of posts and I even wrote a setup guide with hope to see more instances.
ActivityPub is so complex and the spec is full of unhandled corner cases and things left to the implementation. I had to reinstall my instance (100% data loss) and now Mastodon refuses to accept follow requests from my instance: it thinks that re-created user x still follows Mastodon user y, and my instance doesn't have the old follow ID needed to cancel the old follow.
tootik lands support for federation with Lemmy and kbin! https://github.com/dimkr/tootik gemini://hd.206267.xyz
What should I read after Neuromancer and Burning Chrome?
What do you guys think about https://ar.al/2020/08/07/what-is-the-small-web/? I'm not a big fan of "small" solutions based on big stuff like Node.js, and a protocol+format stack that changes a lot and doesn't "fit in my head".
What tools/browsers/clients do you use to subscribe to Gemini pages?
@martin "Clear All" redirects me back to /dimkr with status code 31, not 30. Is this a Station bug or a client bug? My client remembers permanent redirects and just jumps to /dimkr next time I try to clear my notifications
The Pico W running my capsule is slow and unreliable (dies after 2 requests?) since a series of power outages a couple of days ago. RIP, maybe back to ESP32? :(
Cleaned it up during Passover and now my Gemini<>fedi thingy is open source! https://github.com/dimkr/tootik
I'm looking for a cheap VPS with >=1 GB of RAM for a Gemini project. Does anyone have recommendations for VPS/cloud providers? Thank you!
gemini://hd.206267.xyz:8965 is live, running happily on an Eee PC 1001PX
Finally, my Gemini server for Pico W handles multiple requests semi-concurrently gemini://gemini.dimakrasner.com/main.py
Moved my capsule from ESP32 to a Pico W, but MicroPython doesn't send close_notify. Anyone else with the same problem?
Anyone interested in multiplayer Doom I/II/Freedoom?
Finally ordered a Raspberry Pi Pico W! Next stop: put a capsule on it
I've been less active in Gemini since late July. What did I miss?
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad is shooting rockets at my family :(
Any dwm/dwl users around? I'm looking for ideas for improvements in the "snail" layout gemini://gemini.dimakrasner.com/two-weeks-with-the-snail.gmi
Any tiling window manager users around? What window manager/compositor and tiling layout do you use?
I feel overwhelmed with all the house renovation related stuff, the MA final exam in July, two papers I must submit until then, work, a solo I have to practice on (and other things), BUT I finally found the time to do a Gemini "hello world" on ESP32! gemini://esp32.dimakrasner.com
I bought a Jinhao shark fountain pen for $0.87 in November, and promised myself to use only this pen (with 50ml of black ink for $5) until 2023. We're 5 months into 2022, the pen still writes like a champ, and no one in work or uni ever asked me why my pen looks like a shark.
gplaces is now available on Flathub!
