got a new 512gb sd card to double my storage on laptop. The sd card adapter has a liittle switch labled 'lock'.
"Oh, this is for locking the micro sd card into place! Nice!" I thought to myself.
I then tried and failed to put a file on it. Read only. Spend the next 10 minutes looking on linux mint fourms for a solution, until someone pointed out:
just want to make sure nobody is overlooking the obvious: that perhaps the write protect switch on the card got flipped. I've done that a couple times when shuffling cards around too quickly...
"WTF is a write protection swi-.... ohhhhhh...."
As it turns out 'Lock' means 'Data Protection 'Lock'.

I have one sd card where it flips the write protect switch when you insert it ... so I applied some drafting tape over the switch :) · 9 months ago
refreshing! i am old enough to remember floppy disks. i found it interesting how long it took from the disk icon to be replaced by the cloud icon. there will be future generations to which neither makes sense because they will store things in this weird futuristic thing.
and then some will come around talking about these things in the sky and how they are old enough to remember when those stored more than just rain, but data.
enough talk. time to reorder my ferret ring memory, i shook the computer to hard and now half of my ram byte is messed up. · 9 months ago
Dang you olds are really flexing on me! Its not my fault I was a toddler when floppies were phased out with CD drives! I have at least seen and touched a few old floppy disk which should give me some nerd credit, right? · 9 months ago
old enough to know:-) · 9 months ago
Floppy disks had that... cassette tapes too... if you are old enough this won't come up as a surprise! · 9 months ago
Rigid floppies had that too and floppy floppies required you to put a piece of tape on a hole :D · 9 months ago
Haha, well now you know! :D · 9 months ago
